The Hazelnut, known also as the “Cobnut” is grown commercially primarily in Turkey, Italy and France. Starting around 1940, hazelnuts were also grown in a few places in the Northwestern United States. The earliest know uses of the hazelnut in foods are thousands of years old, originating in Asia Minor.
The practice of flavoring coffee as a beverage began hundreds of years ago in the Middle East when spices and nuts were used to compliment the coffee flavor in ritual as well as ordinary use.
